CALL TO ACTION: Trade Skill Shortage and How to Overcome the Challenge

Unemployment rates are down, yet high labor shortages in trade skills persist. Globally, 10 million unfulfilled manufacturing jobs go unnoticed by young people, likely because 85% of them haven’t been exposed to the trade. Further, only 16% of young people are likely to consider manufacturing as an occupation. Companies must maintain strong businesses and recruit younger generations to combat these challenges.
It’s time for companies to reevaluate internal processes and adjust to the climate and changing global regulations. They must eliminate waste and create streamlined manufacturing processes, which will allow for higher efficiencies and the retention of top talent. Companies must reach young minds and educate them on the benefits of working in manufacturing, including high levels of job satisfaction and earning potential. MB&A plans to make trade skill options more accessible through outreach, partnerships and apprenticeships. The efforts will include competency evaluations and a potential to gain certification.
